Poetic Thrift: Creative Mending (Session 8)

This eight-session class will cover the history of mending traditions across the world and teach participants practical and aesthetic techniques for common mending needs such as mending woven fabrics with inserted patches, appliqued patches, needlewoven repairs, and hand darning; mending holes and tears in knitted fabrics; hidden mending methods; and embellished stitches, including sashiko, cross-stitch, and other embroidery. We’ll finish with a comprehensive sample book and a variety of personal mended items.

Natural Dye Study Group (Spring 2020 - Session 2)

This term’s focus is a deeper look into dye variations: indigo, mordant recipes, rust processes, and advanced contact print methods, among others. We’ll use traditional and experimental methods of applying mordants and explore multiple process dyes. While this course builds upon previous experience, adventurous beginners are always welcome!
