A group-directed itinerary of explorations into the expansive world of natural dyes. This term’s focus is on green! We’ll explore both European and Japanese methods of obtaining true green as well as multiple overdyes of traditional indigo and a variety of yellows. Fiber focus will be cellulose. Printing and some newer mordants will be sampled.
Topics include:
Titanium oxalate and mordant mixtures
Mordant printing before/after dyeing
Continuous alteration of dyes (post-mordant or modifier)
Multilayered and registered printing
While this course builds upon previous experience, adventurous beginners are always welcome!
