In this team-taught class with Marilyn Zornado, students will develop a portfolio of work using natural dyes and experimental printing methods to create small editions of books, zines, and broadsides. We’ll design unique patterned papers using indigo, contact printing, hand brayering, and silkscreen, as well as creating imagery with drawing techniques and our own handmade natural inks. We will further build on our papers using unconventional approaches to the press including pressure prints, wire prints, linoleum-style cutting, and solar plates. The course will also include a field trip to see artist books. This class assumes that students have some previous book arts experience.
