  • Zornado Studio 8325 North Central Street Portland, OR, 97203 United States (map)
Thrift is poetic because it is creative; waste is unpoetic because it is waste.
— G.K. Chesterton, What's Wrong with the World

This class meets on Wednesday evenings, January 22 - March 11, 6:00 - 8:30 pm.

Poetic Thrift: Creative Mending
$205.00

This eight-session class will cover the history of mending traditions across the world and teach participants practical and aesthetic techniques for common mending needs such as mending woven fabrics with inserted patches, appliqued patches, needlewoven repairs, and hand darning; mending holes and tears in knitted fabrics; hidden mending methods; and embellished stitches, including sashiko, cross-stitch, and other embroidery. We’ll finish with a comprehensive sample book and a variety of personal mended items.

All necessary materials and some sample fabrics will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring personal textiles for additional evaluation and mending. Also bring a basic sewing kit: sharp fabric scissors, needles, a seam ripper, and a thimble if preferred.
