“Thrift is poetic because it is creative; waste is unpoetic because it is waste.”
(G.K. Chesterton, What’s Wrong with the World).
Now famed worldwide for its striking traditional indigo and white color scheme and complex decorative patterns, sashiko’s utilitarian use as a mending technique is sometimes forgotten. In this workshop, students will learn to mend well-loved items using beautiful and strong sashiko stitching.
Students are encouraged to bring an item to mend: denim jeans or jacket, moth-eaten wool, threadbare flannel shirts. Students will learn a variety of embellishing stitches to breathe new life into well-loved items.
All materials are included in workshop fee.
Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee, tea, water and light snacks will be served.
Limit 8 students.
