Experiment with printing with thickened mordants to alter the color of a dyed fabric in a specific pattern of your choosing. We’ll dye fabric blanks and work on undyed fabrics, printing with brushes, blocks, stencils, and silkscreens to produce patterns on a variety of fabrics including cotton and silk. Workshop fee includes a block of EZCut material for carving your own blocks.
An assortment of silk and cotton fabric samples will be provided. Students may bring a cotton t-shirt, linen napkins, cotton socks, or up to one yard of natural fiber fabric to be dyed; these materials should be pre-washed in hot water and dried without fabric softener.
Please be advised that students should wear appropriate clothing and shoes, items that you won’t mind potentially being stained with dye. Bring a pair of rubber gloves and an apron if you like.
Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee, tea, water and light snacks will be served.
